General Conference Workbook for April 2008's Conference

General Conference Activity

Last October the Friend had a cute idea. I changed it up a bit and did it with my boys. They listened better than they ever have before! Here's the link to the Friend idea... General Conference Activity,” Friend, Oct. 2007, 31 (see below)

But what we did was we made a list of words that we thought we'd hear at conference (that's the part like the Friend.
We also made a list of rewards.  They weren't just snacks.  We put each reward on it's own slip of paper and folded up the slips.
We put the slips in a bowl.  Whenever we heard a word that was on our list we crossed off the word and my boys got to pick a slip.
Our rewards included making homemade cookies after conference, reading a favorite story, playing a game of Uno, inviting a friend to go with us to the park on Monday, etc. My boys were older so they needed something more than just a jellybean or raisins to motivate them.  Like I said it worked like a charm.  I think picking their own words and possible rewards made it more fun and meaningful too!

General Conference Activity,” Friend, Oct. 2007, 31

By Marie Waldvogel

This October the prophet, Apostles, and other Church leaders will speak to us in general conference. This activity will help you listen to them. You will need some type of small snack in different colors or shapes, like candy-coated chocolate pieces, different cereals, or jelly beans. Assign each color or shape a topic before the meeting starts. Then you can eat the snack each time that topic is mentioned by a speaker. See the example below. You can also make your own sheet with other topics.

a crayon, a cup, an oar, a pear, a pencil, a rabbit, a saltshaker, a sugar bowl, and a woman’s shoe. Then color
the picture.

Joshua Served the Lord

By Robert Peterson

Robert Peterson, “Joshua Served the Lord,” Friend, Nov. 2002, 15
After Moses died, Joshua became the prophet to lead the Israelites. With the Lord’s help, he prepared the children of Israel to enter the promised land. (See Josh. 1:1–3, 9–11.) Can you find these twelve objects hidden in the picture of Joshua: bird, book, boot, fish, fork, knife, man’s shoe, pencil, salt shaker, shovel, spoon, telephone? After you have found them, color the picture.
