FoodWise For those in Arizona, this is an advertisement, The Idea Door only publishes this as information only My name is Brent Averett I am in the Greenfield Stake Western Skies Ward. I would like to inform you of some of the services that my wife, Kristi, and I offer through our store; FoodWise.
First of all I would like to state that I am in no way attempting to advertise or promote our store through the Church. Kristi and I are very careful about how we approach disseminating information to Church members. With that in mind let me give you a little background on how we came to be;
Kristi and I are concerned about the state of the economy and we are also very nutrition conscious. Kristi has made her own 16 grain bread for years just because of the nutritional value and cost savings. We recently decided to get our food storage together and were appalled at the lack of resources in the valley. As you know, the cannery has a very limited list of items they make available and anywhere else we could find bulk grains for sale charged outrageous prices. We are both from Salt Lake and are used to these items being available and affordable.
Needless to say we thought it would be a good idea to open a store in the valley that provided these necessary items at Utah prices. As we did our research we found that those individuals we came in contact with who did have food storage knew little or nothing about using it and were extremely hesitant about opening the containers.
Without going into great detail, we are approaching food storage and emergency preparedness in a much different light making education, variety and affordability the main focus.
We would like to share our knowledge and expertise with as many individuals as will hear us which is why we will be offering free classes on food storage preparation. These classes will be interactive with complete student participation. We are more than happy to put on free classes outside of our store for Relief Society Enrichment night etc.
We also plan to hold scheduled “cannery nights” where individuals can come into the store and package their own dried goods. We advocate using clear plastic PET Jars with barrier lids and oxygen deprivation packets rather than #10 cans because they are re-sealable, don’t take on a “tinny” taste and will preserve as long as a #10 can.
Anyway, we wanted to send you a note to let you know we are available and excited to help educate the community. Please come to the store to meet us and ask any questions that you may have.
We are located at 854 E Williams Field Rd #105 in the Lindsay Square shopping center on the NE corner of Lindsay and Williams Field roads. Our hours are 10:00am – 7:00 pm Mon – Sat.
