PLEASE NOTE THAT, this site is not run by Sis DeWitt, nor do we have her email or a way to contact her. She no longer gives this fireside, so this copy of the fireside is pretty much one of the only way to see the fireside. Sorry!

EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN

I am so excited to have obtained permission from Sis DeWitt, to offer a taped copy of the firesides Sis DeWitt gave on Food storage, as well as the booklet "Everything Under The Sun" which goes along with the fireside.

This booklet is 28 pages. It is full of information on canning /canning meats, food storage and recipes for cooking in the solar oven and about solar ovens.

The movie clip is one of the firesides she gave, it was taped in 2005, it is about an 1 1/2 long.
Sis DeWitt, was an area specialist in Arizona for over 5 years, she went around to different groups (HFPE) and gave a fireside on food storage. I personal think it is the best presentation on Food Storage I have ever heard.
For example about what is in this booklet, she teaches you is about "THE SYSTEM" (this information is also found in the booklet)

A note from Wendy DeWitt (dated 7/21/08):  I'm working on an updated book right now for BYU broadcasting.  They're going to film my class and put it into 3 (1/2 hour) segments for Living Essentials on BYU tv.  We don't start filming until November so I don't know when it will air.

FIRESIDE TO DOWNLOAD - free of course
You can watch the fireside by clicking here and you will find more information on how to download this fireside. this fireside is about 1 1/2 hours long, it is almost 1.20 GB so it is a VERY large file.

THE SYSTEM
*I've based this system on a "worst case scenario," meaning, if there were no stores, gardens, city water or electricity, I could still feed my family.

*How much food is a year's supply? This system answers that question right down to the last teaspoon of salt. You choose 7 breakfasts and 7 dinners that you would want to have once a week for one year. (I told my family I wasn't doing lunch. We're getting up late and going to bed early. No lunch.) If you want lunch, homemade bread, macaroni and cheese or refried beans are good choices. One pot meals are best. Multiply everything in each of your recipes by 52. There are 52 weeks in the year x 7 breakfasts and 7 dinners = 364 breakfasts and 364 dinners... close enough! If you want to have more variety, choose 14 dinners and multiply everything in
each recipe by 26. Do your breakfasts the same way. This is a very simple system that saves time and money because you're only canning what you really need and will eat.

*The cost of using this system depends on your menus. Using the least expensive menus listed here, if you shop wisely and bottle your own meats, it can cost as little as $320 per person per year. This would include 2 cups of breakfast, 2 cups of dinner and 1/2 loaf of bread daily.
*One person's year supply will usually fit into 10 cannery boxes. (The kind that 6 #10 cans fit into.) This will fit under a regular twin size bed. ,
*Rotating food has always been a problem for me. I just can't keep track of everything.
This is how I've "solved" it. My 364 dinners and breakfasts are stored under the beds and I don't touch them until they get close to their expiration dates. (The dates are kept on a separate list)
It' s a good idea to place like items together and rotate them as needed. The shortest shelf life I have is the powdered milk and potato pearls...2-3 years. This means I don't have to think about my food storage for up to 3 years! When it's close to the expiration, I take the food from under the bed, put it in my kitchen pantry for daily use and immediately replace it with fresh food storage. With this system, I always have a full year's supply on hand
