Helps from "Zippy"
Some
of you might recognize the name Zippy from the Nursery Yahoo lists, she
has a wealth of information on this subject, and has offered to share
them with everyone, so this page is dedicated to her and her ideas! I am
working on this page and will post her ideas as she send them, so check
back often, and I will try to get them organized and up soon.

Creation
Units
I am taking
some of my ideas and bringing them up to times. For Example:
One activity
that I did was make a mobile out of the creation with
the children
adding to it every Sunday. I used colored hangers from the local dollar
store and using construction paper made blue circles and wrote
“Heavenly Father Created the World just for Us” on them and hot
glued them onto the hanger. From this I had 7 strings of yarn. Each
string had its own circle that I stapled and tied or used the tape you
send mail with and used it to tape circle to string . On these circles I
put lessons 8-15 on. The 7 days of creation and one for the Sabbath , a
day of Worship . ON Whitney’s site you can get pictures you can use. I
am blessed to be able to draw . So every week they saw their mobiles
grow .We also tried to have something they could take home to share with
their Families every week. One mother came to me and told me about her 2
year old telling her sisters about what was created using the
pictures...it works!! So how practical is it to buy hangers for the
groups you all deal with . Not so I came up with this
Another
activity used was using 2 circles out of card stock and six
circles of
white paper with the six days of creation. I drew the
six days on
the circles and had them copied but there is clip art
from approved
resources like the friend ....:0) I punched holes
in the top
and put a brad in the top. (remember put tape over the brad
so that
little hands cannot remove) the last circle I told of the day of rest.
The clip art
that I have used for both of these activities I drew. The church has
flannel board pieces that can be reduced and used for this. I think this
would be better for them to use. I know Whitney has it on her site and
it comes directly from the church site. So I don’t see any reason why
you could not add it to yours . It is the one with Adam and Eve and then

Lesson 8
These units take a little more preparation. Here are some of the ones I have used in the
past.
*STICKERS This would be one to keep ....might use...instead of glue
sticks.
1.Draw and design stickers on paper with crayons. (do not use
washable markers or pictures will bleed)
2.Mix 2 parts white glue to 1 part white vinegar. Add a drop of mint
extract. (optional)
3.Brush the back of each sticker with glue mixture.
4.Allow the mixture to dry for about 15 minutes.
5.Lick and Stick!
The following is a recipe someone sent in here and another sister
said she used jello instead of the know gelatin worked for her
I know the top one works and she said this worked and I think hers would
tasted better .
Use 2 tsp Knox gelatin, 1 tsp
sugar, and 2- Tbs. water. Heat to dissolve. Brush over the back of
each
design and let dry. When you lick them they become sticky.
Day and Night Lesson 8
Sun Catchers made from 2 paper plates ( one blue and One white)
*In the blue plate cut the center out of the plate leaving enough
room to tape the following:
*Make a sun out of some bright yellow tissue paper and some clouds
out white and put it between wax paper and iron it. (tape both sides
of the wax paper on the front and back of the blue plate) With a
marker write I am Thankful for the Night and Day.
*Cut a circle of black construction and tape it into the white
plate. Put a hanger made out of yarn on top and hang the two plates
together using yarn. Let the children put a moon made of reflexive
wrapping paper and silver and gold stars on the construction paper.
*Might be a good thing to try the sticker glue on ..:0) Tell the
kids that they can tape it on their windows. It will catch the sun in
the day time and at night it will shine with the light in the room.
Hint: If you can not get the wax paper to stick together you might
Want to use clear contact paper.
Lesson 8
How about this for night and day.... Cover the windows in the room
with black paper that has stars and a half moon cut into it. When the
sun hits the cut-outs it will put stars and moon glowing into the
room....
Make sure you sit the kids down and have a flash light...:)))
For the sun part let the children put triangles on a yellow paper
plate along the edge. :)))) hole punch a couple of holes at the
bottom of the plate and one hole at the top. Put a small yarn hanger
at the top and hang blue and white clouds on the bottom that say the
purpose :))) This they can take home.
Lesson 8 Night and day
I used black construction paper for night and blue for day. I made
large squares of each and glued them on white. At top or bottom I
wrote I am thankful for the Day and the Night. I made little yellow
suns and a cloud of white. I made half moons and a few white stars
(or you can use gold stars you can get a Teacher's supply )Using glue
sticks or sticker glue let them glue sun, cloud, moon and stars on
the squares :0)
As you can see...the things I use some of it is prepared by me but I
try always to let the child take part. Now the sun maybe almost in
the Night :0) and moon and stars maybe up side down but I let them do it
Lesson 9
I am Thankful for water
Raindrops
I cut a lot of rain drops out of blue construction paper. I cut umbrellas out of different colors of construction paper. I glue the umbrella down on a piece of paper. On the paper I write *I am Thankful for Water*. My assistant and I go around and put dots of regular glue down on the paper and let the children glue them down . We let them put the drops down and let them do as much as possible. The whole time we are doing this I stress the fact *who made the rain* and how this helps us.
Lesson 10
GROWING BEANS IN BAGS
The only thing that you need for this is some zip-lock baggies.
Bean seeds that have been soak over night.
Some wet paper towels.
Put the paper towels into the baggies.
Put the seeds against the wall of the baggie but next to the wet towels.
Don*t over soak the towels and put into a sunny window. If you send these home with the children.
Put a tag that says *I am Thankful for Trees, Plants and Flowers.
Lesson 10
Thumb Print Flowers
Take yellow or orange finger print ink and make several thumb prints on some construction paper. Spread them out. Ahead of time make flower petals out of different colors. And a few green leaves out of green construction paper. Let the children glue down the petals and leaves.
LESSON 12
I am Thankful for fish.
I colored all of the fish every primary color I could think of. I
then put paper clips around the mouth and then put contact paper on
the fish front and back all the way up to the end leaving a bit of
the paper clip sticking out. This secured the paper clip and I knew
the kids couldn*t accidentally get clip into their mouth. I then let
them go fish following the instructions about the different colors ...
Then I made copies just for them. Instead of paper clips I would take a hole punch and punch holes so that they can be put on fish stringers. Then I let them color theirs every color in the rainbow making the fish like mine ...lol I then made small fish
stringers for each child and let them put their fish. So many of the children went out the door saying hey Mom or Dad look what I caught ...lol it was so much fun...I used
a lot of the finger plays for this lesson and when it came to the
activity verses about fish I used fish made out of full sheets of construction paper.
The kids took turns holding them and we did this verse a couple of times both in
the lesson and while we were waiting for parents. One sister told me
her 2 year old was going around saying snap snap little turtle
can*t catch me all week....
Lesson 12
paper plate aquariums.
I use blue plates for the back and white for
the top. I cut the top of both to look like the top of a bowl
aquarium. I used sticker fish that I let the children stick on the
back blue plate. I made rocks out of brown construction paper and
plants out of green contraction paper. We glued these on with glue
sticks. The top plate I fixed ahead of time by cutting out a window
and covering it with a qt. baggie taping it to the inside. I then
took a permanent blue marker and put wave action across the
baggie...:0) I stapled the two together after the children did their
part and put the children*s name on it.
*** Hint: I put everything into little baggies for each plate...ahead
of time... My helper and I had the glue stick and went around putting
glue on the plants and rocks and let them stick it down. Let it be
their project... you can guide them to put it in a certain place but
let them do it lol (caution: rocks may end up on some of the poor
fish heads but.... its theirs)

Easter, He has Risen !
One of my favorite is the empty tomb. I take brown construction
paper and shape it the top and sides into a rock like structure the
bottom is straight. I black out a door shape in the middle with
marker or I cut out a door shape in the middle and add black
construction paper from the back. I make a rock like shape to cover
the door and use a brad to one side to cover the door. ( Hint* cover
the back of the brad with packing tape so little hands can not remove
and put in mouth ) This way the rock can be moved out of the way.
When they move the rock out of the way they see a empty tomb. I make
one for me when I give a lesson. I tell them see no one is there
Jesus has risen! Then I let them have theirs and some crayons and let
them color the tomb. I also let them glue the words *Jesus is Risen!* On the back I put the activity verse on page 150
This is something the parents can use to help teach the Easter story at home..:0)
The only other thing I could caution you on is be aware that some of
the children are very upset with the picture of Christ hanging on the
Cross. When I was teaching this lesson I had many good and many bad
times. The children reacted in different ways. For the small ones the
death of Christ may make them upset or they may not
understand "death". Some will spot right off the nails and the blood
and will react to the men actions toward Christ. I would not tarry on
his death or how-(personal opinion here) But if you get a reaction
you need to address their questions. Make it simple. We are teaching
the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his atonement for our sins.
I would tell them he died and they buried him. His Spirit went to
Heaven and in 3 days he came back. He was resurrected. Jesus talked
to men on earth. He came over here to America at that time. He taught
them what Heavenly Father wanted them to do. He then went back to
live with Heavenly Father. (simple) Let the pictures tell the
story...the crucifixion is but one part of the story.
I tell this story and I find myself repeating it often but it is a
good example if you are looking for a way to handle this:
One time I was teaching and one of the children became extremely
upset over the picture of Crucifixion. She started crying and then a
chain reaction started. I put her into my lap and told her that Jesus
forgave the men that were mean to him. That the mean men did hurt
Jesus. Jesus did die but Jesus loved everyone and it was a special
thing Jesus did so that everyone( pointing around the room) could
live with Heavenly Father again. Then I turned to each child and told
them that Jesus loved you (calling names as I went)Jesus wanted to do
this for us because He loved us so much. That is the reason we have
Easter so that we can remember what Jesus did for us.
