No
misfortune is so bad that whining about it won't make it worse.
~Elder Jeffrey R. Holland (The Tongue of Angels General Conference, April
2007)
No
misfortune.pdf |
“Before turning
down a request to serve because you feel you are too
busy, you might want to … simplify somewhat and
make a new appraisal of what you really consider
essential. Reconsider your priorities and remember your
covenants with the Lord wherein you have covenanted to
give of your time, talents, and means liberally to the
upbuilding of the kingdom of God.
“As you simplify
your life by putting first things first and eliminate
less essential activities, you will probably find time
to accept the Church assignment. …
“Also, sometimes
we are asked to accept Church callings that we do not
feel qualified to handle, and we are prone to say no
because we are afraid. I have found that to a very large
extent life is a series of assignments for which we
don’t feel fully prepared, but as we accept and do our
part, the Lord blesses us with wisdom beyond our natural
selves, and in such cases we really reach beyond
ourselves. Thus we grow by having to exceed our past
selves” -Elder Franklin D. Richards

"On my way to visit the
Jameses the other evening, I saw a wheat field that appeared to be
greener and taller than the others. Thinking about it for awhile, I
concluded that occasionally some loving farmer drives over the field
with his tractor and pumps manure all over it. I thought, 'My, it's just
like life. Here we are minding our own business, growing our little
hearts out. We're really quite green, somewhat productive and very
sincere. When out of the blue, life deals us a dirty one, and we're up
to our eyebrows in manure. We, of course, conclude that life as we have
known it has just ended and will never be the same again. But one day,
when the smell and the shock are gone, we find ourselves greener and
more productive than we have been.' Unfortunately, no matter how often
we go through these growing experiences, we are never able to appreciate
the sound of the tractor or the smell of the manure." [Harold W. Wood]. |

I used to give my roomies
in college a cute thing when they were having a bad day. I made up a
poem and wrote it on a card. I put the card and a bunch of Hershey's
kisses and hugs on their desk. THANK Shelby Farnsworth for
sharing this cute poem.
A Hug and
Kiss from me to you,
For when
you're down and feeling blue.
You may
not smile at a silly card,
But
frowning at chocolate is really hard!

Have I done any good in the world
today?
Have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?
If not, I have failed indeed.
Has anyone's burden been lighter today
Because I was willing to share?
Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?
When they needed my help was I there?

Don't you wonder what would happen if we treated our
Book of Mormon like we treat our Cell Phones?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we spent an hour or more using it every day?
What if we used it to receive messages from the "text"?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it as we traveled?
What if we used it in case of an emergency?
Oh, and a few more things - Unlike our cell phones, one Plan fits all.
Unlimited usage.
No roaming charges.
You always have reception.
No weak signals AND we don't ever have to worry about our Book of
Mormon being disconnected, because our Savior already paid the bill!

"Motherhood is the one thing in all the
world which most truly exemplifies the God-given virtues of creating and

creation."

TEEN COMMANDMENTS
1. Don't let your parents down; they
brought you up.
2. Choose your companions with care; you
become what they are.
3. Be master of you habits or they will
master you.
4. Treasure your time; don't spend it,
invest it.
5. Stand for something or you'll fall for
anything.
6. Select only a date that would make a
good mate.
7. See what you can do for others; not what
they can do for you.
8. Guard your thoughts, what you think, you
are.
9. Don't fill up on this world's crumbs;
feed your soul on living bread.
10. Give your all to Christ; He gave His
all for you.

The Value of a Smile
It costs nothing, but creates much
good. It enriches those who receive it without impoverishing those who
give it away. It happens in a flash but the memory of it can last
forever. No one is so rich that he can get along without it. No one is
too poor to feel rich when receiving it. It creates happiness in the
home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friends.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the
sad, and nature's best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged,
borrowed, or stolen for it is something of no earthly good to anybody
until it is given away willingly.

"A temple is literally a house of the Lord, a holy
sanctuary in which sacred ceremonies and ordinances of the gospel are
performed by and for the living and also in behalf of the dead. A place
where the Lord may come, it is the most holy of any place of worship on the
earth. Only the home can compare with the temple in sacredness."

Lord, thank
you for this sink of dirty dishes;
We have plenty
of food to eat.
Thank you for
this pile of dirty, stinky laundry;
We have plenty
of nice clothes to wear.
And I would
like to thank you, Lord, for those unmade beds;
They were so
warm and comfortable last night.
I know that
many have no bed.
My thanks to
you, Lord, for this bathroom,
Complete with
all the splattered mirrors, soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory;
Thank you for
this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs defrosting so badly;
It has served
us faithfully for many years.
It is full of
cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals.
Thank you,
Lord, for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today.
It has baked
so many things over the years.
The whole
family is grateful for that tall grass that needs mowing,
The lawn that
needs raking;
Thank you,
Lord, even for that slamming screen door.
My kids are
healthy and able to run and play.
Lord, the
presence of all these chores awaiting me says
You have
richly blessed my family.
I shall do
them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully.

GRACIAS SEÑOR…
Señor, gracias por este
fregadero de trastes sucios;
Tenemos suficiente comida
para comer.
Gracias por este montón de
ropa sucia y mal oliente;
Tenemos suficiente ropa
buena para vestir.
Y me gustaría agradecerte,
Señor, por esas camas sin hacer;
Estaban tan tibias y
cómodas anoche.
Se que muchos no tienen en
qué dormir.
Mis gracias a ti, Señor,
por este cuarto de baño,
Completo con todos los
espejos salpicados, toallas húmedas
y el lavamanos sucios; es
tan conveniente.
Gracias por el refrigerador
lleno de huellas sucias
y que necesita muchísimo
ser descongelado;
Nos ha servido fielmente
por muchos años. Está lleno de
sodas y suficiente comida
He cocinado tantas cosas en
Las hojas necesitan ser removidas del jardín;
Todos hemos disfrutado el
patio.
ricamente a mi familia.

Just for this
morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you up and take
you to the park to play.
Just for this
morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how
to put that puzzle of yours together.
Just for this
afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and
sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.
Just for this
afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream
and whine for the ice cream truck, and I will buy you one if he comes
by.
Just for this
afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow
up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.
Just for this
afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over
you trying to fix them.
Just for this
afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so
you can have both toys.
Just for this
evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you
were born and how much I love you.
Just for this
evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.
Just for this
evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count
all the stars.
Just for this
evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss my favorite TV
shows.
Just for this
evening when I run my finger through your hair as you pray, I will
simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given.
I will think
about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing
children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their children's
graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in
hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming
inside that they can't handle it anymore.
And when I
kiss you good night I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer.
It is then, that I will thank God for you, and ask him for nothing,
except one more day...........

Be Thankful
Author Unknown
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you
desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful
when you don't know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow. Be
thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for
improvement. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build
your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will
teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a effort. It's easy to be thankful for the
good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also
thankful for the setbacks. Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your
blessings. |
