Visiting Teaching Conference

I need your help with this page, what have you done for your VT Conferences, please share! info@theideadoor.com

Here are some of my thoughts on themes and topics that could be used, they are not programs, just thoughts, to get us thinking.

How about this "Follow the Savior"
“Visiting teaching gives us an opportunity to learn how to follow the Savior. As we extend love and unselfish service, we become instruments of the Lord, helping in times of physical, emotional, and spiritual need to touch hearts and change lives. Visiting teaching is the very essence of the gospel and gives us the opportunity to practice the principles found in Mosiah 18:8–9: ‘willing to bear one another’s burdens, … willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times, … that [we] may have eternal life.’ ” President Barbara Winder
Relief Society general president 1984–1990

or Walking in the Light of the Lord

Maybe we could do something with that............. VERY simple  Use  I Am A Child Of God, that I got from the the talk "Visiting Teaching: The Heart and Soul of Relief Society" http://www.lds.org/pa/display/0,17884,5063-1,00.html

Joan and Ruth walk in the cemetery to get in their visits. Joan doesn't have a companion; the ward is on overload. At first glance the two have little in common. Joan is single; Ruth is a mother of five sons. Joan is blind, but that hasn't stopped her from sharing the visiting teaching message with her friend. Joan memorizes the scriptures in the lesson, and then the two talk about them as they walk. These two sisters in the gospel have become dear friends. When I picture them, I hear the words of the Primary song, "Lead me, guide me, walk beside me."

Attention Grabber for a Visiting Teaching Conference
We printed all our sisters names (over 200) on about 1/3 sheet of paper each and taped them to chairs winding around in half of the Cultural Hall before we had our VT Conference. The sisters all had to get their own chair to sit down for dinner at the tables in the other half of the room, and seeing how many empty chairs were still left really made an impression.

Thanks to Donna in VA for sharing this idea!

Visiting Teaching Focus for 2005: "Rejoice in the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ"

In celebration and honor of the 200 birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith, visiting teachers will share the message “Rejoice in the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” with each Relief Society sister throughout the world in 2005. As women discuss these messages together, may we reflect upon the Prophet's contributions and rejoice in the glorious blessings resulting from the Restoration.

Maybe we could base something around this, since it is a big thing this year about Joseph Smith OR

Visiting teaching is the heart and soul of Relief Society. The purposes of visiting teaching are to build caring relationships with each sister and to offer support, comfort, and friendship. In visiting teaching, both the giver and the receiver are blessed and strengthened in their Church activity by their caring concern for one another.

This caring concern is described in Moroni 6:4: “And after they had been received unto baptism, . . . they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ; and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God, to keep them in the right way.”

To be named and numbered has special significance for those in need. Elder Henry B. Eyring describes it beautifully:

“You are called to represent the Savior. Your voice to testify becomes the same as His voice, your hands to lift the same as His hands. . . . Your calling is to bless lives. That will be true even in the most ordinary tasks you are assigned. . . . You see, there are no small callings to represent the Lord” (“Rise to Your Call,Ensign, Nov. 2002, 76).

CD Gift Idea

As we had been planning our Visiting Teach Workshop, we were trying to come up with something to give our sisters, we always have our workshop at the end of the year, so we can combine a "gift" as their Christmas Gift, (not that you have to give one, but we like to) We used the song  "Miracles" from www.defordmusic.com as the song that was sung, we talked about making a bookmark with the words to the song and other things, then Nancy (our Secretary) said why not just give them the song, GREAT IDEA!! So we started thinking, how nice would it be to give them a CD with some nice music on it, they give the Primary kids one, so why not one for the sisters, there are a lot of GREAT songs you can get free of charge off of the church web site, from the Hymn Book,  but we really wanted to give them the song "Miracles", on Defordmusic web site it says:

"If you would like to copy and distribute these things on a larger scale than just family and friends... for example, classes, groups, Christmas cards... let's see, what else have I heard of? Youth Conference attendees, Relief Society birthday gifts, Mother's Day ward gifts... I have made available a CD of MP3 files that can be used for this purpose. The CD includes a license for unlimited copying and distribution for non-commercial purposes. It will cost you $16.99+S&H. This does a couple of things for me: it helps to pay for the production and maintenance of this site, and it offers high enough quality MP3s to produce good audio copies."
The following information is how to purchase the CD

Purchase of this CD includes a license for unlimited copying and distribution of the files contained on the disk in any audio format, provided the copies are for non-commercial use. (Copying and distribution for profit is prohibited.) to order the CD with the music on it and obtaining a license to be able to burn her songs, click on this link! CLICK HERE TO ORDER CD (this link takes you to a different site) the CD looks like this

So we took songs off that CD and we copied Sisters of Zion and made CD's for our sisters, with the cost of the CD's and the labels and the envelops to put them in, the cost for these CD's was under a dollar each.

I just wanted to share this idea, because I think it is wonderful! If you have any questions, please email me and I'll see if I can help!

I have had a lot of  people ask for more info about this CD, so here is more info:

The CD we bought is a CD with a ton of Sally Defords music on it. By buying the CD we also bought the right to copy as many CD's as we want for free.
It is not a CD called Miracles, does that make since?
The songs we put on the CD are the following ones
1. Miracles
2. My Sister's Hands
3. My Grateful Spirit Sings
4. Because He Lives
5. As Sisters in Zion Hymn  #309

Hands of Unity and Love

Our convention was titled Hands of Unity and Love.  Visiting teaching supervisors gave hand massages as the sisters arrived.  Dinner had an Italian theme.  The Visiting Teaching Coordinator reviewed the five points of massage that the sisters received when they arrived.  Our music was provided by a group of eight sisters and was lovely.  They sang "My Sister's Hands."  The president deliver thoughts about the impact and importance of VT.  The 2nd Counselor read the story about the statue in Germany.  Our hand out was a packet with massage supplies (lotion, an emery board, orange stick, and the statue story).  Each sister was challenged to visit their sisters and give them a massage.

Handouts for VT Conferences
Visiting Teacher Pamphlet
This is a pamphlet I put together for our VT Conference, our theme was "The Errand of Angles"  (its is a tri-fold)

VT Pamphlets.pdf

Tri-fold for VT Handout
The info in the tri-fold is gleaned from all over so I can't feel good about putting my name on it.  We used it for our conference last year and our theme was Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd.

I forgot to indicate that the center section, that ends up as the back side, (the  THANK YOU! one with the quote by Joseph Smith) is written to have signatures at the bottom. Our RS Presidency's signatures were on the original.

Many, many thanks for your sharing! Sister K. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS TOGETHER AND SHARING THIS FOR ALL TO USE!!
