Here is some emails about an idea Pam from Texas had, her
first email and other peoples reply's and ideas. Thank you Pam for letting
me share this idea!! (this came off the yahoo group list)
I'm
planning a carnival for our ward on the theme of Book of Mormon
stories. I have a few ideas, but was wondering if anyone has any more
ideas or can improve on the ideas that I have. Some of the things I've
come up with are:
Lehi and his dream with the iron rod, etc. - Make a maze that is like his
dream and and have the kids go through it. the prize at the end is a
combo flashlight and compass ( all the prizes are from Oriental Trading)
Journey to America- they will have boat races using rain gutters (our cub
scouts have done this at scout shows) or a small wading pool. prize is a
boat powered with a balloon.
Alma and Amulek in Prison- the kids will decorate and act out being tied
with cords, praying, breaking the cords, having the prison walls fall down
and killing the wicked men- Activity for kids- I don't know. Prize is
stetchy skeletons
Anti-Nephi-Lehis Burying their swords- I will have sword pens buried in a
tub of navy beans ( less messy than sand) and the kin=ds will dig in their
to find one. Prize is the sword pens
Sons of Mosiah/ Ammon being missionaries to the lamanites- The kids
will have to say aa article of faith to get a prize which will be a
package of seeds (Alma said testimony of Christ is like a seed, etc.)
Brother of Jared seeing the finger of God- will have the room with a
blacklight in it and will have 8 rocks painted with flouresent Paint to
lmake them glow. The kids can hammer nails in a board like they are
making a boat. The prize is the glow in the dark witch
fingers.
Captain Moroni and the Title of Liberty- Activity ? Prize is bracelets
that say faith, hope, dream (like livestrong bracelets).
Nephi hunting for food in the wilderness and making a bow and arrow-
Activity- shooting foam arrows at a target. Prizes?
King Benjamin preacing on a tower or Samual the Laminite on the wall
preaching. ACtivity? Prize ?
Anyway, if anyone has any other ideas or can help improve on these, please
let me know. Thanks, Pam in Victoria, Texas

Hi Pamela, I had a few ideas for you.
Alma and Amulek in Prison- the kids will decorate and act out being tied
with cords, praying, breaking the cords, having the prison walls fall down
and killing the wicked men- Activity for kids- I don't know. Prize is
stetchy skeletons------------How about wrapping them in toilet paper and
racing?--------------
Captain Moroni and the Title of Liberty- Activity ? Prize is bracelets
that say faith, hope, dream (like livestrong bracelets).----------- How
about making a flag?--------
Nephi hunting for food in the wilderness and making a bow and arrow-
Activity- shooting foam arrows at a target. Prizes?------------Ruler -
straight edge?---
King Benjamin preacing on a tower or Samual the Laminite on the wall
preaching. ACtivity? Prize ? ------------How about having each person
sing a song on the stage? (That's about as close to preaching the gospel
as some can get!)-----------
I like your ideas for games very much. I like the bracelets too. Hope it
all comes together beautifully for you! Heidi A In Louisiana

We met with the YW-YM last night to go over the carnival. they had
a good idea for Samuel the Lamanite- With big appliance boxes, paint
them like a wall. Have Samuel stand on a table behind the wall. The kids
will trow nerf balls or nerf arrows at him as he preaches. they even
talked about having velcro on his costume or the wall and have the kids
throw velcro balls at him and the wall and see if they can make them
stick. I found bouncing rock balls in Oriental trading.
Also for Nephi hunting in the wilderness for food, there is all kinds of
animal prizes (to represent the food he is hunting for) in Oriental
Trading.
Now I'm trying to find an activity for Captain Moroni and the Title of
Liberty.
Thanks, Pam in Texas

Pam, I really love this idea and will be modifying it for our ward. I've
decided to advertise it with the slogan "Trick or Treating on Book of
Mormon Boo-levard". (With Bishop approval, of course.) I wanted to say
"Scrip-ture Treating on Book of Mormon Boo-levard", but I'm helping the
primary with a Scripture Treat Sharing time on October 30 and didn't
want to confuse the events.
We're inviting everyone to dress in Book of Mormon attire with a few
prizes for some of the adults and kids. Thanks for the inspiration for
using the Prophet's challenge to read The Book of Mormon by the end of the
year. I hope that your event is fabulous.
I'll keep you updated on our details.
You will be blessed for sharing!
