It's all black and white

Last year we used the theme of black and white because we wanted the girls to not think in gray. We used black and white and new beginning and then at yw in ex. we took black and white photos of each girl and I hand tinted them with a little color and said that with personal progess you can add color to your life. we used them with their fav. scripture in the value colors for decor.  We did it in the R.S. room so the only decor was the girls photos matted on black card stock so they
would stand on the white table cloth. The invite was a painters palets with colors and a real paint brush. We had brownies with white ice cream. We had some of the girls talk about how yw's has colored there lives.

"It's all black and white!"  I thought about talking about how white is the absence of all color, and black is all colors combined.  How we need to live in the world, but not of the world. Every choice we make has a consequence.  Even when we're choosing between two good choices, Heavenly Father can help us know what decision is best. I also found a cute logo that said TEMPLE in white letters with a black border, and then WORTHY in black letters with a white background. I thought this might be cute for a t-shirt or pillowcase.  I haven't worked out all the details yet, but it might give you a direction to go in.

I was just reading in my Personal Progress project planning book called, "Young Women Fun-tastic Personal Progress Motivators" by Mary H. Ross. On page 131, under the 'Integrity" planning section is an activity called, "Temptation White Balloon Bounce and Black Balloon Stomp". The instruction read:

"Give each young woman a white and a black balloon to blow up and tie. Tell young women that the white balloon represents purity and the ability to resist temptation and the black balloon represents temptation.
  TO PLAY:
1.. (White Balloon Bounce) Have young women think of one or two ways they can resist temptation and write it on everyone's balloon with permanent marker. Have young women at the same time bounce their balloons into the air, giving an idea on how to resist temptation, e.g., obey parents, dress modestly, come home from dates early, get enough rest, read the scriptures, pray, attend church, serve others, listen to the Spirit of the Holy Ghost, read the 'New Era', listen to the prophet. Girls can take balloons home.
2.. (Black Balloon Stomp) Tell young women that we can "help" each other stomp out temptation by being a good example and sharing the gospel. Give young women a 12 inch string to tie the black balloon to their ankle (with shoes off). At "go", everyone tries to stomp on their neighbor's temptation balloon. When the balloon is popped, she can leave the stomp. The last person with a balloon says, "Help!" and the others can rush back in to stomp out her temptation (balloon).
Hope this helps a bit.

-Misty
