Meal Planning Activity

Here is an idea for an activity I'm doing this week.  Each of my laurels will get one of the situations below.  They each have a budget of $15 (fake money).  Each girl will not reveal her situation until the end. We will go to the grocery store and each girl has a pad of paper and pen.  They must choose a meal that satisfies all three requirements and
stay under their budget. 
 
Afterwards, we will go to my house and they can explain their situation and what they chose. We are also going to eat a meal that fulfills ALL three situations.  (It's a grilled chicken salad - high in iron, quick to make, and not fattening).  I would prefer that they make the meal themselves, but we don't have enough time.

Your doctor said your 3 year old is not getting enough iron in his diet. Choose a meal that is:
 
1.  High in iron
2.  Nutritious (nothing out of a box or bag!  Must be fresh)
3.  Something a 3 year old will like
 
 
Your husband needs to watch his fat intake because heart disease runs in his family.  Choose a meal that is:
 
1. Not fattening (Cannot use "low-fat" or "fat-free" foods)
2. Nutritious (nothing out of a box or bag!  Must be fresh)
3. Delicious
 
 
You've been extremely busy all day.  It's 6:00pm and you haven't even thought about dinner.  Your husband comes home and has had a hard day, in which he skipped lunch.  He and the kids are very hungry.  Choose a meal that is:
 
            1. Quick to make (30 minutes or less)
            2. Nutritious (nothing out of a box or bag!  Must be fresh)
            3. Delicious
