Repentance - It's An Inside Job!

Have an "Inside-Out-Makeover" with the YW.  It is best to do this activity when you have a sleepover so that there is enough time to do everything. 

First, talk about outside beauty and have makeovers.  Use natural beauty remedies, the girls may think this is gross but will be surprised at how their skin feels afterward.  (Recipes below.)  Then have someone from the ward or stake (a cosmetologist or even a Mark Kay/Avon sales person) come and teach the girls make-up tricks.  The girls can also do hair styles.

After all of that, invite a previous YW leaders or someone who has been involved with and respected by the girls and get them to give a talk on self esteem/child of God and the Importance of the YW values.  Another good idea is to make up a `special sign' that the
girls can use towards each other when they feel it is needed if they need support etc.

Recipes:
Cornmeal Scrub - use facial scrubs about once a week.  It is best described as a complexion cleanser.  1 ½Tbs yellow cornmeal, 2Tbs plain yoghurt (or ½ avocado).  Mix together in palm of your hand until it forms a grainy liquid.  Apply to face, massaging lightly with balls of your fingers.  Rinse well and pat dry.

Egyptian Egg Masque - masques are used to keep the skin tight.  It is best to use a facial scrub and maybe even steam it before applying a masque.  1 egg white.  Slather egg white on your face.  Leave for 15-20 minutes or until it becomes dry and tight.  Rinse
with tepid water and a final splash of cool water.  Feel how smooth your skin is.

Oatmeal Masque - oatmeal is good for oily skin as it helps remove excess oil.  2Tbs oatmeal, 2tsp honey, 1 egg white.  Mix to form a thick paste.  Slather onto clean skin and allow to remain 15-20 minutes.  Rinse with tepid water and a final splash of cool water.

Mexican Moisturizing Masque - 1Tbs minced parsley, 1Tbs honey, 1Tbs milk.  Mix to thin paste, apply to face and allow to remain for 20 minutes.  Rinse with tepid water and a final splash of cool water.

Mayo Magic (moisturizer) - 1Tbs mayonnaise.  Apply in a thin sheet.  Massage lightly with fingertips in upward circles.  Leave a few minutes before rinsing.

Crème Indienne - for dry/normal skin.  The cream is moisturizing and the lime is a mild astringent adding a slight tingle.  1Tbs heavy cream, ½ lime.  Place cream into small bowl; squeeze lime juice and mix.  This will turn the cream slightly.  Rub onto skin and massage lightly with fingertips.  Allow to remain for 20 minutes, rinse.

Exfoliant - helps slough off dry skin and makes skin "glow".  ¼c coarse table salt.  Pour salt into palm of hand and rub onto dull areas of body using slow circular motions.  Avoid any nicks or cuts.  Complete with a shower.
OR
1 avocado.  Peel avocado and eat it.  Rub the peel over rough areas like elbows and knees.  The inside of the peel contains soothing oil that will gradually soften the skin while the peel is slightly abrasive.

Toner - (astringent).  1Tbs cider vinegar, 1c mineral oil.  Mix and place in a bottle that has a tight seal.  Keep in refrigerator.  (May use strained juice from 2 lemons in place of cider vinegar.)

The first was a hand scrub and talk about service.  I did this part so here is what I did.  I had them list all the tings they could think of that they do with their hands and pointed out how everything they said could be applied to service.  We then read this great story out of the Era http://library.lds.org/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates$fn=default.htm   After that I gave instructions on what to do with the hand srub I brought (scrub up really good, then add a drop of soap, then rinse in the bucket of warm water and then choose a lotion and rub it in well) and then while they were scrubbing I played the Kenneth Cope song "His Hands".  It had a good impact to have them be quite and scrubbing their own hands while listening to a song about the services the Savior has done for us.  The recipe for the scrub I made was super easy.  It was just a cup of sugar and a glup of olive oil and 2 glups of lemon juice.  You cant go wrong I don’t think, just add ingredients until it isn’t runny but is a good scrub consistency. 

The second part I didn’t do (so I don’t have nearly as much info on) was about what they speak, like profanity or gossip, and then making lip gloss.  I know she bought little jars at the craft store and found the recipe online and used quotes and talks from lds.org.  The girls really enjoyed doing this and I see them pulling out their lip gloss at church and the activities.

The last thing we did was to challenge them to walk with great posture down the hall to the room where we had a member of the stake who is a photographer take really nice individual pictures of them.  We asked them to "walk tall" down the hall and let their inner beauty shine through their smile.  We are going to use the pictures for YWIE and also on a bulletin board in the room where we will put them up and cover everything but the eyes and let them guess who it is.

So at the end of the evening each girl took home a jar of lip gloss and a little baggie of the scrub and a card with these beauty tips on it.

           helping and sharing with those
           in need.

 4.  For lovely hands -- use them
           often to lift others.

           daughter of God.

A friend told me about a "spiritual spa" they had in Enrichment - I adapted it for YW.  Basically, you need to have 3-4 beauty treatments, and a mini-lesson for each.  These were the 3 I did:

Lip treatment (sloughs off dead skin) - read excerpts from a talk on profanity by Boyd K. Packer (i.e. only kind, soft words should pass from our lips).

I taught a lesson on speaking kind words and attached the following poem to the chapsticks.

I have this pot of lip gloss,
I'll put some on each day.
I do it to remind me
To choose the words I say.
 
I'll try to speak with kindness
To everyone I meet.
I'll try to spread some happiness
To those that I may greet.
 
This pot of gloss reminds me
Of the values I hold dear,
The colors are so cheerful
And the message is so clear.
 
If I want to live the gospel
I'll choose each word I say.
I'll speak in just the kidness words
And I won't forget to pray!

Hand treatment (found some at the $ store, but basically is a scrub & moisturizer/sea salt & oils, etc.) - talked about how our hands should always be busy in service to others.

Foot soak (found some balls that fizz when you put them in water and bought small basins at the $ store, but you could also use lemons/limes cut up or some other foot soak) and used President Hinckley's "Stand for Something" as a starting point, and then the girls and I discussed "standing" up for our "standards" while their feet soaked.

We split the girls into groups and did each of the sections in different parts of my home (rotated) - so you will definitely need a few counselors to help!  The girls had fun (and felt pampered) and we had fruit/veggies for refreshments.
