Missionary Survival Challenge

Here are some possible activities for a Missionary Survival Challenge. These are based on things missionaries in the field actually do.

Door Approach Challenge - Knock on a classroom door (a home) and introduce yourself and your companion as missionaries and try to get invited inside.

Discussion Presentation Challenge - Using a copy of the First Discussion, present the first principle to an "investigator". (Discussions are available through the Distribution Center if you can't borrow a copy from your local missionaries or a returned missionary).

Scripture Study Challenge - Have scripture study with your companion (get the scripture study booklet from current or recently returned missionaries - perhaps make a copy of a page to use)

Raise Your Voice Challenge - Hand out "Pass Along Cards" to as many "potential investigators" as you can. (You will need to have several adults available as potential investigators for this one, create a park-like setting and have the adults milling about - the youth need to get their attention and offer the card).

Scripture Knowledge Challenge - Find the scriptures used in the First Discussion and mark them in your scriptures. Scriptures used: John 3:16; John 14:6; Amos 3:7; Joseph Smith - History 1:8, 11-12, 16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:1; John 14:26; Moroni 10:3-5. (If you don't have the youth bring their own scriptures, you could have them look up and take turns reading each reference out loud.)

Preparation Day Challenge(s) - Sort a bag of laundry, sew on a button, iron a shirt (or blouse), write a letter home, plan a menu for 2 days – including a shopping list, and fold a batch of clean laundry.

Transfer Day Challenge(s) - Pack a suitcase and carry it to the transfer area, meet your *new* companion and get to know them, carry your suitcase to your new area and unpack.

If you are doing the Missionary Survival Challenge with things the youth can do right now to be missionaries, here are some other suggestions.

Invite a Friend Challenge - Invite a *friend* to a YM/YW activity.
Book of Mormon Challenge - Give a Book of Mormon to a *friend*.
Pass Along Car Challenge - Give a Pass Along Card to a *neighbor*.
Missionary Split Challenge - Help a *missionary* give the first principle of the First Discussion to an *investigator*.
Friendshipping Challenge - Invite a *new member* to sit with you at lunch or another school activity.
