have the information to put together the youth conference of "Moroni's
Quest". Right now it is still in the form I got it in, which is
sheets and sheets of information. I also got from another sister the
basic concept of what they did.
Maybe you could do this and modify it for a ward
instead?

This is the summary of one sister who did it in their
ward (LONG)
I've been reading the posts regarding Moroni's Quest
and thought I'd let those interested know in greater detail what it's all
about. To warn you all reading this, it's going to be a long message
because there is so much information to go through. Our stake has done it
3 times now (every 3 years) and it is absolutely amazing. Having
participated in both Quest and Trek, I would say that if you want to
invest the time and money into something this big, go with Quest. In my
opinion, it is by far a more spiritual experience.
To warn all those who are interested in doing this,
it is a HUGE amount of work for many people. However the payoff is well
worth the effort as testimonies are strengthened, and a greater knowledge
and understanding of the Book of Mormon occurs in all the youth and
adults that participate.
I do have a script for this, but it is 44 pages long,
so I will try to summarize it as best I can. Fortunately, most of the
script is taken directly from the Book of Mormon, so if you know what
scriptures were used, you can go from there. More about that later.
Quest is 3 1/2 days long. Our stake does it in a
forested camping area. We arrive in the morning a few miles away from our
camping area. The youth are put into tribes of about 12-15. Everyone is
dressed in costume of what we think was worn at that time.
There are about 15 tribes, some are led by
individuals, some are married couples. Each tribe leader has been
prayerfully selected by the stake leaders a year before Quest begins. The
tribe leaders need that much time to prepare. Our stake leaders also fast
and pray about
which youth are assigned to each particular tribe.
The tribe leaders meet once a month for 6 months for instruction by the
leaders. Each tribe leader comes up with a name for their tribe and makes
a flag that is carried by the tribe. The tribe leaders play one of the
biggest roles since they are responsible for holding
the discussions with the youth after each Book of Mormon re-enactment.
There are several firesides held by the stake to
prepare the youth and their parents. The first is in September to get them
excited about going. They are given a challenge to read the entire Book of
Mormon by the time Quest arrives. They show a video about Quest from the
last time it was done with youth in it talking about what a good
experience it was. Another fireside they are introduced to the different
tribe leader who come in costume with their flags. There is also a wrap-up
fireside held a couple months after Quest where they show the Quest video
and share some remarks by youth and leaders. Youth of all ages and their
parents come. While Quest is only for those aged 14-18, it is something
the stake wants younger youth to get excited about too.
When the youth arrive in their tribes, they are given
a Liahona and a necklace made of leather with plastic beads the color of
their tribe on it. The Liahona is a booklet with a picture of the Liahona
on it and their name, tribe color, and tribe name. Inside the booklet is a
welcome message, Quest goals, instructions on listening to the
re-enactments and discussions, an outline of events, concluding remarks
and wishes, music they will sing and blank pages to use as a journal or
for signatures.
The youth spend some time at the beginning exchanging
their beads with members from other tribes trying to get a bead of each
color. Then they gather in their tribes for a welcome/prayer/instructions.
After this, prophets come by warning them of the destruction of Jerusalem
if they don't repent.

circle around the youth. A few leaders mix the youth up by moving them
around. One person from each discussion group is taken off to the side and
told they did not make it through the destruction.

Discussion leaders begin to call out for their youth
by name and try to gather the group together. Even though they call, the
name of the one missing youth does not return. Blindfolds come off and

returns, great rejoicing.

Closing Prayer
OK, I'm sick of typing, and if you made it this far,
you're probably sick of reading, but there are a few more things. All the
re-enactment speaking parts were previously recorded and burned onto a CD.
The stake took the speaking parts very seriously and chose people
with good voices to participate in this. Some of the
speaking parts were done by the actors, but not many, as it is too
difficult to hear without it being broadcast over speakers. Some of the
scriptures were not entirely read out, or summarized, but they stuck to
them very
closely for the most part. There was also a lot of
music mixed in with the speaking parts. There was a particular music theme
that let everyone know when a re-enactment was about to begin, and when a
discussion should begin and end.
Discussions were usually about 15 minutes. You can
see there were lots of them, especially the second day. Tribe leaders gave
objects to add to our necklaces or paste into our B of M as reminders of
different discussions.
There were specific people called to do most of the
food preparation, so the youth were all fed well. The wards had to do some
of it, but it was mostly ready to go.
